Meet the Leaders Behind the Ministry
We were both part of a moms group that was a lifeline for us while our children were small. We found a community there amongst other moms on similar journeys and our heart is to create that same opportunity among moms who potentially couldn't attend a group like that for childcare reasons. Our heart is to make sure these women know that they are seen, what they’re doing matters, and that they are loved and not overlooked.
Our Testimonies
Katie Deets, Founder + Director
Hello! I’m Katie Deets, Founder and Director of Moms Connect Ministries. My husband Matt and I have four “typical” children, and while parenting a child with intellectual and physical disabilities is not my personal story, my heart is with the mom who’s in that role and longs for community. When my children were small I was part of a moms group that was a lifeline to me through that season. A true community when I felt I was losing myself. When I was given the opportunity to run the outreach program for Moms Alive, the Lord laid it on my heart to serve these specific mothers. The moms who may not be able to place their child in a typical childcare setting, but who also needed, and deserved, that same lifeline community. I’m undone by what the Lord has built from that “one time” event but looking back I can see how He was weaving pieces of my story toward this very thing. I have always been drawn to children with learning differences and disabilities, and as a teen I volunteered in classrooms and served at summer camps that were geared toward them, so to now get to serve their mothers in this way is a true honor. Thank you for allowing me to serve you in this way, I hope this ministry and community blesses you as much as it continues to bless me.
Lauren Lusby, Founder + Director
Hey there, my name is Lauren Lusby, and I am the Founder and Director of Moms Connect Ministries. Together with my husband Justin I have 4 “typical” kiddos. While I am not the parent of a child with disabilities, I am the older sister to a sibling with various intellectual disabilities. I grew up watching my mom tirelessly advocate for him to have all that he needed to thrive and saw how draining that could be for her and that she didn’t have anyone around her who could relate to what she was experiencing. I saw her be misunderstood and feel isolated in that aspect of her parenting. Never could I have imagined how God would combine that part of my story with the passion He gave me for women’s ministry, but wouldn’t it be like Him. Only He could see how those things would fit together so beautifully and allow me to not only be a part of it, but to get to do it with a best friend. I wonder what it would have meant for my mom to have had a group like this. To have been able to connect with and know other moms and hear someone else say “me too girl, I get it.” While I obviously couldn’t be that for her at the time, I’m so thankful to be part of something that is helping other moms in similar situation to find that now. This ministry and the women who are a part of it continue to bless me beyond measure. I’m so thankful to be here.
